Saint John Skeptics in the Pub

Saint John Skeptics In The Pub is an informal social event designed to promote fellowship and social networking among skeptics and critical-thinkers. We meet on scheduled Sunday evenings at a local pub to amicably discuss topics of interest to Skeptics.

Those who join us find we are open to discussing a myriad of subjects. Our get-togethers often begin with a presentation on recent and/or pertinent events or subjects. These run the gamut from astrology to xenophobia. We like to have fun while promoting skepticism, science, and rationality. Any member is welcome to present on relevant subjects of their choice.

Many of us enjoy a fine pub meal while sharing excellent conversation. While one may find like-minded individuals who share their point of view, as often as not one will find themselves challenged by divergent ideas and opposing views. That, in and of itself, is justification enough to attend. Join us for a meal or a beverage and conversation assuredly certain to challenge our comfortable ideas.

Meetings are normally every second Sunday of the month at 5:00 PM at the Big Tide Brewery Pub, 47 Princess Street, Saint John, NB. (but check our events calendar on the main page, to be sure!)

Anyone interested can drop by and join the discussions!

Hi Mr. London, have you been following the debate about the crude oil line that IOL put into service? I have emailed some councilors who have told me the lawyer said the city can do little to tax the new line. The real issue is the stipulation in the original 2005 tax concession that stated the facility would be used ” solely ” for the offloading of LNG tankers. It clearly is being used for more than that now. Do you know of anyone who could me set up an online petition to send to council on this issue ? I am older and not very tech savvy. Thank you for your time.

      Hi Wayne:

Our goal is not to be a political movement, our goal is more focusing on humanism, secularism, and science education. There are groups that specialize in taxation system issue (Federation of Taxpayers comes to mind).

As for sending a petition to council, all the councillors and their email addresses are listed on the city web site. Several were very receptive to receiving feedback about he prayer issue, I suspect they would be receptive to your concerns as well.

The city council site is here:

      Thanks for your comment!
